5 Things I Would Love To Learn How To Do

5 Things I Would Love To Learn How To Do

Hi guys,

I am now deep into my holiday and on my way to my grandmother’s house for the remaining 2 weeks of my holiday in Poland, its been nice being with my boyfriends family but now I want to go to my city for some shopping as where he lives, let’s just say its a few houses and forest. Over my holiday, I have been doing some writing of course, as always, and started to think about all the different skills and professions we have in the world, you know, shower thoughts. Then I started to consider how little I knew and how I lack certain skills that come at ease to others around the world. Sure I may know how to write and I am good artistically to an extent but there is so much more to learn and do than what I know. So I decided to compose a list of things that I would love to learn how to do and maybe one day finally master, and I am sharing it with you! Let me know what you think or if you have any skills or things you would love to try. The list starts below:

1. Learn another language:

I know I already have 2 languages under my belt (Polish and English) But I see people all the time who know 3,4, even 5 languages and I really wish I knew more than my two basic ones. I love to travel the world so being able to go to a country and speak their native language would not only show effort but also be a nice surprise to natives and show respect. We often travel to different countries expecting for them to speak our language (mostly English) when we won’t even bother most of the time to learn theirs, which in some ways is a bit disrespectful but it’s just the way we travel I guess. The ones I really want to learn would be French, Italian or Spanish, but mostly Spanish, I don’t know why but I have always loved listening to it so much so I would love to learn it, I tried before but then I started university and I didn’t have any more time, typical.

2. Self-defence:

Another hobby/ skill that I abandoned and wish I had not, was karate. It was something I was forced in to as a child by my parents, I wanted to swim so for them this was the next best thing, so although I hated it at first I eventually started to enjoy it but as I got into my teen years I saw it as childish and gave up. I wasn’t amazing at it but it looked good enough to perform with maybe a few mistakes, but it was more about protection than precision. I wish I still remembered some of it or carried on as I guess in the world we live in now, it would be useful for self-defence at any moment, so it might be something I get back into when I have more time.

3. Play an instrument:

This is something I have been in and out of my whole childhood and early teen years. I tried to repress writing and art because I thought it was boring and tried to make myself a “musician”, well it didn’t work because I am awful at music, but I would love to try now that I am a bit more mature and have it as a side hobby. I tried the piano and guitar before, so I would be very willing to try these again as I loved doing it when I was a child but again I just was not very good at it, but my parents still cheered me on! My mom always wanted me to play the violin which is incredibly hard, and when played well I love the sound of, again like Spanish, maybe I should try that.

4. Learn how to dance:

I think I have mentioned this before, I hate dancing, I can’t do it, I have two left feet and I hate it. Its one of the many reasons why I also hate clubbing and going to weddings because I just can’t do it and I make a fool of myself. When I think of dancing I just want to hide forever but I know one day I will need it, ie for my own wedding. Just learning some basics would probably change my perspective on it and events that I need it for, I don’t need to be a full-on dancer, just want to know what to do if I get pulled on to the dance floor by a drunk uncle at a wedding, its not much to ask.

5. Sowing:

This is something I want to learn how to do but its not as important to me as the others. Obviously, if I rip clothing etc I know how to fix it and make it new again but I am more about sowing in terms of making my own clothing, it’s just something I see people do and I am amazed by and would love to try how to do on my own, I see it on shows like drag race all the time and I am in awe. Just something small and cool that came to mind and to show off about.

As always, I hope you have enjoyed this post and finding out about some skills I would love to learn how to master. Although knowing how to do these things would be nice, do not discredit the abilities you already have as they have got you so far and will continue to do so. Be grateful for what you know and seek further if you wish to do so.

Silly Childhood Scars

Silly Childhood Scars

I was running around, taking in all of the scenery. The trees, the fresh air, the mountains, my parents smiled at me as they clearly saw I was enjoying our little road trip. I look further and finally saw the best attraction of this whole trip according to my young mind, the ice cream van! I ran towards it while hearing my parents shouting for me to slow down and wait for them behind me, but I couldn’t contain myself.

While I was running towards my goal, ignoring anything and everything in my path, I was thinking of all the different ice cream flavours I could have; strawberry, chocolate, that one with the colourful stripes, oh it was all just so exciting!

I push past many people, getting closer and closer to my goal. But then I felt pain in one of my knees, I saw the icecream van slowly vanish and get further and further away, as I looked down, I saw red and it was not strawberry icecream.

My parents ran to me, checking me if I was okay while giving me the usual lecture a 6-year-old would get for running off, I cried in pain while my mother comforted me. “It’s not that bad, look it’s only small, it will be fine,” she said calmingly. I felt my dad lift me up and before I knew it I was in the car and our trip had ended early.

I often look down at my knees now, 10 years after, and laugh not cry. My childhood innocence and brain left me with a cut like scar, just above my left knee cap. It reminds me often to enjoy life, but take your time with it. To not rush things as good things will come to you on their own eventually. Unless we are talking about that ice cream I was supposed to get on that day, it never came, but I think I would have picked plain old vanilla anyway.

Art: LGBTQ+

Art: LGBTQ+

I decided to dedicate this artwork to a motion that is important to me. I believe everyone is equal and should be respected and have the same rights. But unfortunately, that is not the case for everyone’s beliefs.

I am from Poland, and if you do some digging in the news, you will see the current political debates in the country around LGBTQ+ people. With the comments and actions taken against these people, I am disgusted with the place I come from, disregarding people because of preference and sexuality is not right and should not even be up for discussion, it should be something statuary, something that does not even need to be talked about, because it is normal. It is normal to love and feel for others, and creating an abnormality of it because it may be to do with gender is unacceptable. Creating anti LGBTQ+ zones, the way people in this community are talked about in the church in Poland and by their own president is beyond me, it saddens me and it needs to end.

I hope you enjoy my small piece above for the LGBTQ+ community. Know that I am with you, that you are loved and that this will be overcome one day.

below I have left some petitions to sign that will really help the community and movements in Poland, please do sign as this will help in ways you cannot begin to imagine.

4 Top Myths About University

4 Top Myths About University

(I know this is the second post about university in a row but I have not blogged about this in a long time, I promise the next post will be something different!)

When talking about university, you often hear the top comments, and misconceptions, about it. This can be off-putting for you or anyone you know who is interested in taking this further step into education. It can become demotivating and may affect you when you don’t want it to. But today, I am here to explain these “myths” to you, why they are not true, and what actually happens in accordance with these myths from personal experiences. Remember that university is a big step and responsibility but it should not be something you are too scared of, its a new step in life, a more mature version of education, and if you are sure your fit for it then it will be an amazing experience for you. Now let’s get down to debunking these myths.

Firstly, the classic myth that when you go to university you are putting yourself in tremendous debt, that you will never pay off and it will haunt you for the rest of your life. They’re going to say that you will never even earn enough to pay back the loan, it’s not worth it, it will be confusing to payback etc etc. If you are studying in the UK, this is completely untrue! When you take out your student loan through Student Finance England for example, you take out as much as you need, obviously in accordance with your tuition fee. Then your other loan for living costs etc is estimated and also given to you, so let’s say a grand total of £20,000 per year. I study a three-year course, so by the end of my course, my student debt will be in the high £50,000-£60,000. NOW: I will only start repaying the loan back when I earn over £25,000 per year AND ONLY THEN! So let’s say I am on £25,000 a year, my monthly deduction will come to about max £15-£30 per month. That is the cost of 2 takeouts per month. So is there really much to panic about? Not really, obviously, when you get into the university you know you will have to pay it back, but it is not in such massive amounts as you hear! Also another positive, after 30 years of your graduation, if you have not paid off your debt, it gets completely cleared. So most likely you will max payback maybe half of your degree at best, without making a dent in the bank. Side note, a student loan in the UK does not count as a loan in your credit score, so if your 30 and buying a house and you have student debt, or buying a car or anything you need your credit score for, this will not appear. I remember the mass panic I was going through when applying to university when I thought of all this money I will have to pay back one day, but when the student loans company came into my school and broke this down for us, my worries were at ease, so your welcome 😉

Another myth that is common when discussing university in the UK is that university is much harder than college and high school, that is it way more difficult than A-Levels, and that your just making your life harder for a longer period of time. This is not true either as within school and college, you focus on many different topics and study mass amounts of materials on things that sometimes do not relate, making it much harder for the brain to remember. It puts on a lot of stress as school exams are important for work and further life, whereas, at university, you make the choice to go there so it is just for your benefit, it is not compulsory education. Also, most of the time you focus on one topic unless you study a mixed degree, so it is much easier to remember! At university you also have many more recourses and people to help than in school, as most of the time, there is more space and productivity areas on campus and much more staff per student than in normal education. On top of this, remember, university is not all work, work and work, you get to have fun too so it was really confusing for me to constantly hear that I will be making my life miserable by going to university. Of course, you have to work hard and pay a high price, but you are also there for the experience.

face mask b

Thirdly, a myth that annoys me to my maximum potential because of how untrue it is. If you go to university, you all have the same experience and lifestyle of drinking, partying, taking drugs, always being tired, not going to class, missing assignments etc. THIS IS SO UNTRUE! If you are that type of person then it is easy to get roped into, but this does not happen to every student. From personal experience, I can tell you that I am not a party person so this experience absolutely did not happen to me. When I first started university and met people, I started this lifestyle and I did not like it, getting home for a night out I didn’t enjoy at God knows what hour, wasting money on expensive drinks and taxis and watching my “friends” throw up their dinner. I knew this wasn’t me so I immediately departed from this group and before I knew it I was with the group of friends I was meant to b with. Cinema, beach. restaurants, shopping, the odd peaceful club night, events such as the Christmas fair, this was all part of my university experience and I will tell you that I loved it so much I would not change it for anything else. Make sure to not have this stereotype put you off, your experience is just for you, don’t let anyone predict what it is going to be like.

And lastly, you can only go to university if you are rich. Again, very untrue as for the past few years, there have been so many things made available to people who want to study but may not be from the best background. I and my boyfriend have a stable income from our parents but there is no way we could pay £20k a year upfront for our education, like most from our areas, so we took advantage of the loan system, which is not that scary as discussed in point one, and we are very happy with our decision. Not to mentions the mass amount of programs that are available within the universities for students even if you need extra income after the loan, some are even put in place so you don’t even have to pay them back. Do not be off-put by the “rich” stereotype, anyone who has a great mind can go to university without thinking money is an issue, you just have to do the right research and planning for your funding and your good to go! And get a confirmed place at university of course 😉

I hope you have found this post useful, somethings I wish I knew before going to university for sure! Just one final note, just in case you have not seen my updates tab or my Instagram, from the 16th of August till the 13th of September, posts will only be on Sundays at 3pm UK time, as I am going to Poland to see family for a month, after that my normal schedule will resume. Stay safe!

A-Z Of University Do’s And Don’ts

A-Z Of University Do’s And Don’ts

Hi everyone,

As my time as a third-year student is approaching, I thought it would be a good idea to outline some of the best things to “do and don’t” during your time at university that I have picked up over the years. Some may be exected to you but some may be new, but I do recommend to follow this to have the best experience and education, that you are paying for! Here they are below:

  • A: Do, Act properly: As this is something new, make sure to give a good first impression to your peers, teachers, everyone! It will make you more open and likeable and guarantee a socially smooth university experience.
  • B: Don’t, Bottle up feelings: Again, as this is a new experience, you may be having mixed feelings about it all, make sure to speak to student services or to new and old friends to check in with your mental health.
  • C: Do, Concentrate in your first year: In the UK, the first year of your degree for most does not count, but that still does not mean you should slack off as working hard in the first year will prepare you for the next 2 upcoming.
  • D: Don’t, Ditch lessons: Relating to the first point, don’t ditch lessons, they are there for a reason and your paying for them!
  • E: Do, Extensive research before choosing your university: Make sure you are choosing the right place for you, look at all your options and be open as the environment is key.
  • F: Don’t, Fall out of touch with family and friends before university: Make sure to keep in contact with the people you love most and who helped you get to university, keep people around who know you well, even better than your new friends at university.
  • G: Do, Go to freshers fair and events, ie club nights: Make sure to get out there and enjoy life! Be more social and experience new things out of your comfort zone.
  • H: Don’t, Hide your true self: Make sure to always be you, don’t let this new “lifestyle” change who you really are as this is the person people want to get to know.
  • I: Do, Interest yourself in societys and on-campus clubs: If clubs and nightlife are not your things, there are many on-campus things you can do to stay in the loop and be social.
  • J: Don’t, “Just go with it”: Don’t give in to peer pressure from other students, everyone’s university experience will be different, make yours unique.
  • K: Do, Keep calm: University will be stressful as a lot of new things will hit you all at once, keep calm, it will all calm down within time and you will get used to it.
  • L: Don’t, Loose interest: Stick to your degree through thick and thin, it might be difficult and hard at first but it will all be worth it in the end.
  • M: Do, Money management: This is so important, if you manage your finances right, then you can have an amazing time at university doing awesome things, but if you don’t then it can become a burden more than an experience.
  • N: Don’t, Neglect basic life skills: Many people come to university and become children again as it is education, don’t be like them and be responsible.
  • O: Do, Open to criticism: From anyone, university is a new experience so you need to learn from your mistakes and don’t take it personally.
  • P: Don’t, postpone assignments: Make sure to them done on time, this gives you so much more free time and less stress.
  • Q: Do, Question things: Make sure you know everything and take advantage of being able to ask questions about anything and everything, it will come in use as knowledge is power.
  • R: Don’t, Rush: Anything. Take your time with things.
  • S: Do, Show passion: If you’re at university then you know most likely what you want to do in life, work hard and succeed, show your passion in your field.
  • T: Don’t, Take the experience for granted: 3-4 years of your course will go by so quickly, relish in your time there.
  • U: Do, Understand what you are getting in to: University is serious, you are getting into debt and you need to know the financial responsibilities of this.
  • V: Don’t, Vain: Understand everyone is at your level, no one is better or worse, be equal.
  • W: Do, Want more and more out of your degree: This is a time where you pay for your education, get the most out of it.

  • Don’t/do, x,y and z: Take peoples advice who have been in your position and enjoy as stated in T!

I hope you have enjoyed this post, university can be a new and stressful thing but trust me, if you follow some of these or all then you will be in a good position and surely enjoy your time at uni! Do let me know which of these you found useful or other things you would add.

July Sum Up

July Sum Up

Hi everyone,

Halfway through this month, I was thinking about what I can do to make my blog stand out a little more, have something unique for people to read every month and make it more attractive to more readers. So I came up with the idea of doing a monthly sum up! Every month, on the last day of the month, I will do a sum up of what I did during the month that may be of interest to you. Whether that is little road trips, life events or just little updates on previously talked about topics that may have developed during the month. These posts will be mainly for readers who are interested in my personal life and would just like to know more about me and what I get up to. I will discuss what major things happened in my life during that month and anything I have taken from it.

I just think it will be a nice idea as this blog is about my experiences and discussing lifestyle and development, so if your interested please let me know. I will see how this goes over the coming months, some months may be more interesting than others but that’s the beauty of it I guess. Stick around as below is the first monthly sum up; July.

July, July, very boring July. This is the word I can describe most of the months in 2020 with as the pandemic has left me without the university experience, no job, quarantine, isolation and sitting at home. The only benefit I have really seen is that I am home with my family and I get to see my boyfriend more, and that’s it really.

This month overall has had its lows and highs, but I will go over the lows first to get them over with. Due to the pandemic, I have become redundant, like many during this time in the working sector, but to me, this does not change much as I feel more for the people who have lost full-time jobs and rely on them for their way of life. Them compared to me have much larger issues so I am lucky this has not happened to me further in life. I also have lost my year-long placement as I have discussed before. I enjoyed my job and I was very much looking forward to starting my placement as this would be the start of my career in marketing, but why worry when I cannot help it? I was obviously upset over the two for a while but I imagine that I could be in a worse situation, and I am getting over it. I still feel this will affect me the in the future, as now there are not many opportunities in companies to take on interns, and I most likely will be going into the full time working world with not much experience, but I will cross the bridge when I get there, I choose to stay optimistic.

Another not so great thing to come my way in the month of July would be finding out that the first semester of my final year will be online. I am mad but understanding about this for many reasons, one of them would be the £9k I pay every year for my education, for half of it to be online, and the second would be that I will be missing out on the university experience. I miss my friends, living alone and even eating the student diet! I signed up for it and now I am not receiving which makes me mad, but then I think that it may be for the best obviously due to the health risk of being in a lecture room of 150 people next to one another. I just remain hopeful that the second semester can be back to normal, somewhat, so for the sanity fo students around the world and our money, please wear your damn mask. This has caused me many stresses over the month of July by cancelling accommodation and reworking my student finance, the university keep changing their mind but I guess I have to take matters into my own hands and again remain optimistic.

Some positives now, my boyfriend’s sister turned 18 and we had a small gathering for her. It was something enjoyable to do and the first time I have dressed up in a dress since last year! it was nice to see people and have a few hours to pretend everything was normal in the world. It’s crazy to me in a way, when I and Dawid first started dating, she was 12, turning 13. Wow, so much time and commitment, also so much decrease in my patience 😉 Anyway, I wish her all the best and I hope to see her grow for many more years.

During July I tried to get out of the rut of being in the house all the time, the birthday party included. Me and my parents did some UK travelling as some of you may have seen on my Instagram page, we visited a lavender field and some other locations. I want to do more of this, just seeing some small gems in the UK if can’t really travel outside the country, just keeps the mind engaged I feel.

me lav

Other small little bits to finish off, I got a new laptop, so no more 2 laptops, I needed a new one for my university work and my 2013 laptop was barley running my sims game and lecture notes, so it was time. Now I am heading off the Bournemouth with my boyfriends family just for a small rest, and packing up last bits from my flat, finally saying goodbye until hopefully semester 2 in 2021. Also going to see my best friend for the first time since March and having a little late celebration for her birthday, again I couldn’t be there for her birthday because of CO-VID19, so another bummer.

I hope you have enjoyed the July Sum Up, let me know if you want to see another one next month. I also post daily on my Instagram: @soeffortlessblog so if you want to keep updated with me daily and see what I am up to on the go, please give it a follow at the link.
